jim_gamma: HOW long?!

OK, it's now 24 July, my last post was on 26 March. That makes nearly 4 months without an update. And no nudges from anyone to do so. :p So... just been updating all my user accounts with a slightly new e-mail, similar to what it was before... my old one still works, but I'm phasing it out. Went through about twenty or thirty sites today (some of which I'd not visited in ages) updating them and blocking my e-mail from public view. You see, I'm getting hundreds of spam e-mails per day now, and it's getting annoying. Especially when I can't check e-mail for a while and come online to six or seven hundred spam messages. Work's going well. We may be starting the main phase of the project soon. Other than that... I'm on temporary promotion as of the start of June... I'm also the IT Liaison Officer for my division (which means any IT-related stuff for the division goes through me to our IT contractors, and vice-versa). We have some new temps working with us, all of whom are brilliant. TBBS Meetup was great. Went to a wedding last weekend. Two old university friends finally tied the knot. Don't think there's much else to update on... except that I'm alive, busy and tired. ;)

kiramowett: Wait a minute, I'm not in Texas!

There was a hell of a storm last night. It rained hard for about two hours, there was a lot of wind, lightning, and the loudest thunder I've heard in years. One clap of thunder scared me so much that I fell off my bed! The cats panicked a bit. We really needed the rain, though... It's sunny today.

tomalak301: Back to Learning how to Drive - An Acura RL
Today I drove another car for the first time. The Saturn is my own, but I was driving the Acura RL today to go to a Dentist appointment and then out to dinner. It wasn't a bad ride, but I didn't realize how much power it had compared to a Saturn. I have a bad tendency to give it too much gas and not take advantage of coasting. Also, my dad was in there with me today and he was confusing me and then getting upset with me for making bad manuvers. Damn there are times when I don't like driving with him. When I'm correct and he confuses me to get me wrong, that's just not good. It also sucks when he says always use the turn signal even though with the Saturn I feel I may use it too much. Still, I appreciate the opportunity and this is to get comfortable with it so I can take it to southern california to a friends house. Hopefully I get more opportunities, and maybe get the coasting problem solved. I don't have that problem driving with the Saturn.

kiramowett: Words fail me.

Michael Savage is a dick. End of story. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080721/ap_on_en_ot/savage_autismI've known autistic kids, I've worked with them, my sister works with them. Autism is not a made up thing, and it is not easily diagnosed. This fool needs to educate himself before he shoots off his mouth.

kiramowett: Hell no, Dolly.

Tropical Storm Dolly is supposed to turn into a hurricane in the Gulf sometime today...just as my sister and her family are flying to Miami. Joy. At least the tropical weather is starting to bring rain to my area... ETA: Luckily for my sister, they were going west to east, and Dolly went east to west. They landed in Miami fine, and should land at Dulles any minute now. The pets will be so glad to see them. I'm just glad they're home...

evyllynn: Leaving tomorrow... or make that today!

I'm packed and ready to go, although my suitcase is bursting and I'm absolutely sure I've forgotten something, but damned if I know what I forgot. Sun, Jul. 20th, 2008, 06:32 pm
tomalak301: Spoiler Free Review of The Dark Knight
This is as spoiler free as I can get it, with many some minor spoilers. Nothing to leave under the cut though. I've been looking forward to this movie for at least 2 years and it did not disappoint. It was a great sequel to a series of films that might go down as new Batman Classics. I'm really having a hard time deciding which movie I liked better, this or Batman Begins, because they really are like reading chapters of a book. The story continued and the quality didn't let up from one movie to the next. There was so much fun to be had here but I first want to talk about the Joker. Frankly, while I loved this portrayal as the Joker (Much more than Nicholson's I think), I find Ledgers performance somewhat overrated. Not to say that is a bad thing since he did a terrific job, but I wonder what kind of praise he would have gotten if he hadn't tragically passed away earlier this year. It would have been good, but I'm not so sure if it would have been epic as others claim it is. Still, this movie was about Batman vs The Joker, and Bale and Ledger played off each other really well. I also liked the inclusion of Harvey Dent and Eckhart is slowly becoming one of my favorite actors. He was great as the White Knight, and his transformation into two-face was handled really well. Nolan has created something here that is much more epic than I could have thought. We get a great character study on what it means to be a hero, and how this movie ends was only appropriate to what the theme was. Harvey says something in this movie that I think summarizes it very well, "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself the villain." I'm glad they changed actresses for Rachel, even though both times she seemed more like a distraction than adding anything to the plot. Other than that complaint, Nolan has really done a great job rejuvinating Batman and I can't wait till Number 3. I'm saddened that Ledger won't be part of it because Joker just won't be the same.

tomalak301: Back from Vacation
Another year, and another trip to my annual Family Camp has come to an end. This was a fun week. It was nice to spend some time with friends I don't see very much, and the fishing (Rainbow Trout) was pretty good too. There was so many different activities to do (Hiking, fishing, swimming, Horseshoes, Ping Pong) and I tried to do them all. The staff (With what they had which wasn't much) was nice as usual, and it just was a great week. I'm thinking about seeing Dark Knight today and hopefully there will be a ticket avaliable. All this hype is killing me and I too have been looking forward to this movie for ages. I can't wait.

kiramowett: Mamma Mia!

Saw it yesterday, left the theater with ABBA songs stuck in my head! My review here: http://kiramovies.blogspot.com/2008/07/mamma-mia.htmlWill probably be my favorite movie of the summer. I had to dig out my ABBA Gold album so I could listen to it again! I'll get the movie soundtrack later. Shallow note- Colin Firth is still cute. And he can sing well. Will see The Dark Knight with my nephew once he gets back from Costa Rica. I want to see it in IMAX!

kiramowett: Got an email from my sister...

They're having a blast in Costa Rica. I hope they take a lot of photos... I was good and did not forget to watch Doctor Who tonight! Good episode. Can't wait for Journey's End! I'm going to see Mamma Mia! tomorrow. Hope it's good! I'm waiting to see The Dark Knight. It will be too damn crowded the first couple of weeks! Pets are behaving well, but Henry is a little depressed. He misses his mommy! Last summer, when my sister called to check on me, I put the phone to Henry's ear and he cheered up. He's a funny dog. I left the bedroom door open a crack last night. Big mistake. I woke up with a heavy cat on my legs. *rolls eyes* Bad kitty.

kiramowett: Wow. It's quiet.

Very quiet. The dogs just don't bark much now that Ike is gone. :( At least I'll be able to sleep later in the mornings- it was always Ike who wanted to be walked at the crack of dawn. The cat is sitting on my bed right now, sound asleep. I'm going to have to move him soon...he won't like that. He plans to sleep with me tonight. *rolls eyes* Sorry, kitty. Not happening!

kiramowett: Babies are funny!

We had a baptism at church Sunday. One of the choir members has two tiny girls- the younger is not quite a year old. He handed her to the pastor, and that scared her a bit. When the water hit her head, it was WAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUHHHHHH! The whole congregation laughed. She didn't like that at all! Choir is winding down for the summer. We get August off. Yay! Time to rest my voice.
